Microsoft Office Connector has two parts: a server-side extension to expose a data access API in SMW, and a Microsoft Office add-on which runs on end user’s desktop machines. Using Microsoft Office Connector, users of applications such as Outlook, Word, and Excel can easily discover relevant information in a semantic wiki and explore the structured content without leaving their Microsoft Office applications. Microsoft Office Connector can retrieve in real time information about wiki articles, categories, and properties, and even access dynamic query results that are embedded in the wiki. Moreover, users can easily add content into the wiki in either manual or automatic ways, again without leaving their Microsoft Office applications. Accessing SMW information directly from within Office reduces training requirements and allows wiki information to be tightly integrated with the user’s workflows.
